A couple of weekends ago I found myself in desperate need of culture and fresh air; so I grabbed a couple of friends, packed enough picnic food to feed a small army, slathered on the sun cream and headed up north to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
YSP is an outdoor gallery set in 500 acres of rolling countryside and best of all it’s free!
The major exhibition currently on is Henry Moore: Back to a Land, which considers his relationship with the land. The Park hosts numerous artists, but one of the key exhibitions that stood out for me was Seizure by Roger Hiorns – an empty London bedsit covered in copper sulphate crystals; truly amazing.
I am very much a believer in art is for everyone and I think YSP is a great way for everyone to enjoy art. If sculptures don’t float your boat, then go for the views – on a hot summers day it is British countryside at it’s finest.
